Fall in love with Marana: fun things to do

Looking for great things to do this season? Marana is known for fall events that bring together families, friends and residents of all ages to enjoy good, old-fashioned fun. What follows is just a sampling of some of Gladden Farms’ favorites.

Marana Park & Recreation

Marana Parks and Recreation just released its fall activity guide. It’s packed with activities for all, like themed gardening classes, guided Tortolita Mountain hikes (including moonlight excursions), horse camps for every skill level, and birding and nature events.

Back by popular demand are “Paint Nights in the Park” for teens and adults, plus a Fall Break Art Camp. Marana seniors are invited on day trips to the Queen Creek Olive Mill and the Wilcox Tirrito Farm. And all residents are invited to the annual fall “Pool Party” the at Ora Mae Horn District Park pool on September 3 at 7:30 pm.

The Marana Fall Festival

This year’s beloved festival is on Saturday, October 14, at Marana Heritage Park from 2-9 pm on 12375 North Heritage Park Drive. It’s an afternoon and evening of fun for all ages and features live music, kids’ activities, games, rodeo, harvest demonstration and local food and craft vendors. But, of course, the main event is the incredibly popular mutton-busting competition!

The Marana Pumpkin Patch

Mark your calendar for family-friendly Halloween fun and fall-inspired photo ops! The Marana Pumpkin Patch — with its 50 acres of homegrown pumpkins, famous corn maze, farm playland, pumpkin tractor train, pig races, petting zoo and more — opens its gates October 1st and runs until the 30th. Visit the official website for information on hours and to purchase online tickets.

 “Terror in the Corn”

As in many years past, we’re told the famous Marana haunted House “Terror in the Corn” is back. It’s said to be one of the “scariest and most unique Halloween experiences in town.” The “haunted house” is on Tangerine Road, near I-10. Just look for the cornfield and listen for screams and laughter from the fields, “Shady Acres Asylum,” and the Zombie Paintball Shootout range. A not-to-be-missed thrill for teens and adults!
